You can have two dreams as one conversation

Ann had a dream about a recital of dancers and she was describing it. Ann then thought of another dream. Ann didn’t understand why she connected the two. Ann was able to connect the dreams with her real life situation by discussing them both. It was not an accident that Ann’s mental leap from one dream into the other occurred.

The Dreams

“I was returning to college, and I was on my way back to a recital. I arrive late and am wearing the wrong attire. Everyone is shouting at me, including the president, who happens be one of my closest friends. Just before I get on stage, I forget the choreography and the combination. I panic and don’t go on stage with the other members of the group.

“I can see the girls mad at me from the audience. I don’t want to go on stage with them. It was almost like I hadn’t been there to learn the choreography.

“In another dream, a group from my work left me out and spoke a lot about me. I woke up, and had to confirm with them that I wasn’t mad at them.

The discussion

We began the discussion with me saying, “In your first dreams, you can’t seem get it right. People are mad at you because you arrive late, wear the wrong clothes, forget the choreography, or arrive late.

“Where did you feel that nothing was happening in your life the last week?” At work? At work? Did you ever find yourself in a situation when you couldn’t handle it?

Ann responded, “The part about me forgetting the choreography happens occasionally.” It happens only once in a few months. Two incidents are relevant in this instance. It is likely that I forgot the choreography because of my job. I’ve been with the same company for many years and was promoted two months ago.

“I feel more at ease now, but I felt a bit lost and anxious to complete tasks. I was afraid that I would forget the steps.”

Ann’s play-on-words was obvious to me so I joked, “Didn’t you say that you were afraid you’d ‘forget about the steps’?”

Ann confirmed, “Yes! It perfectly reflects my feelings, and there are many more. Since years, I’ve been building my online influencer brand. I frequently model and promote clothing and products that I work with.

“They have always been supportive of my influence, but in the same week I had these dreams, a jealous colleague reported me to HR regarding some of my social media content. It felt like all the work I had put into networking, and my company brand was at risk.

I noticed that your dreams had a similar theme regarding anger or your disappointment. Do you believe your dreams are a reflection of your concern over HR’s reaction to your posting online?

She replied, “Yes. Definitely. I actually explained to HR how I was a great employee and how my posts don’t violate the rules. I was able to share everything with them, which relieved me of any concerns about my performance.

Ann’s situation inspired me to share a thought with her: “These dreams seem to be linked.” The first dream sees you leaving your friends on the stage and the second one seeing you being left out by your coworkers. This is a fascinating twist, especially considering that you were in a situation where your coworkers might push you out of work.

Ann noticed my observation and immediately offered her opinion, “That’s true, but at the same, the second nightmare also brings back memories of a Jonas Brothers concert.” My friend gave me her ticket and I was shocked that my other friends had not invited me. Because the dream I have is about this event, the girls at work who talk about me in my dream are exactly the same girls as the Jonas Brothers concert.

“It is a wonderful observation that I leave them first, and then they are leaving my. It’s almost as if they have caught me turning the tables at work by standing for me with HR.

What We Can Learn

Ann suggested that she might be able to learn from the combination of these dreams. Ann’s first dream was about a situation that she felt very anxious about. However, she discovered the solution when she spoke up.

The immediate connection to another dream led to an entirely different situation at work that caused anxiety. Ann had the same solution. Ann can now shift from being anxious to feeling confident in her work friendships.

If a dream brings up another dream, you might try to analyze them as part of a complete conversation. These connections will be likely to connect them in different ways. This can help you multiply your learning.
